Our Greatest Challenge
To mark the start of the new century, Alpine decided to take on its greatest challenge: To completely conquer the problems facing the perfect reproduction of sound inside a moving vehicle. Of course, absolute perfection can never be achieved. However, in striving to attain it, we have raised audio precision and quality to heights never before achieved..

Three Difficult Problems:

Sound Field
To achieve the purest, most musically accurate sound possible, the negative effects of the sound field must be eliminated. However, this is extremely difficult. The interior of a vehicle is full of obstructions and other factors that limit and even actively degrade the transmission of sound, and these factors thwart engineers as they attempt to adjust and perfect the sound field.

Sound Image
Adjusting the sound image for proper perception at the listening point is the first step in achieving perfect sound re p roduction. However, the interior and its appointments obstruct, reflect and absorb the sound. Moreover, the sound engineers have an added d i fficulty in that the environments they use in their research cannot be exactly the same as that of the actual listener.

Sound Quality
Achieving superior in-car sound depends on i m p roving the inherent sound quality. Here again the interior of a vehicle is one of the least friendly environments. Not only does the interior affect the sound, but external factors come into play as well. Road noise, engine sound, vibration, electrical interference, voltage changes, and other noises all adversely affect the overall sound quality.

Three Brilliant Solutions:

Adaptive EQ (PXA-H900)
Alpine engineers determined that the only way to fully cancel the effects of reflected waves was adaptive equalisation, in which signal characteristics are dynamically adjusted to compensate for changing transmission path quality. The enormous computing power required to perform the necessary calculations is supplied by four 100MIPS DSP LSIs. As a result, the phase problems caused by reflections are cancelled, and response is flatter than ever before .

Auto Time Correction (PXA-H900)
The obvious solution to compensating for different speaker locations and interior obstructions was Auto Time Correction. However, as sophisticated as p revious Alpine methods were, they were not good enough for AlpineF#1Status. The answer was Time Stretched Pulse, a technology for precisely measuring the delay time of each sound from a three - way speaker system. By applying the proper amount of digital delay, an ideal sound image is obtained.

Highest Quality Parts
Every part, circuit and surface is designed and selected to maximise sound quality. These include a high - precision DP-ST mechanism with a skew optimisation pickup, a DC-DC converter for ultrastable power supply, and ultra-precise Burr-Brown K-grade 24-bit DACs. The chassis is copper-plated to resist noise, while the surface and all mechanisms have a black finish to prevent optical noise caused by laser light dispersion.
